As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the vibrant contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals in the Hispanic community. From artists and activists to storytellers and trailblazers, these individuals have shaped our shared history in meaningful ways. Their work continues to inspire and affirm LGBTQ+ young people, showing that representation matters more now than ever.

In this spirit, we're thrilled to share an interview with actor and advocate Harvey Guillén (he/him). In this conversation, Harvey opens up about  the importance of representation, his journey as a queer Latinx actor, and how embracing his heritage has impacted his work and his identity. His insights remind us that visibility and inclusion are key to creating a future where all LGBTQ+ young people can thrive.

While we celebrate stories like Harvey’s, it’s equally important to continue educating ourselves and fostering inclusivity for LGBTQ+ young people, especially those in the Latinx community.

What is Intersectionality, Really?

Understanding the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in the Latinx community starts with understanding intersectionality. This perspective helps us see how identities like race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality intersect to shape lived experiences. Learn more about the power of intersectionality and its role in uplifting diverse voices in our blog, "What is Intersectionality, Really?"

Public Education: Knowledge That Has the Power to Heal

Hispanic Heritage Month reminds us that education is a vital tool in addressing the mental health needs of our diverse communities. The Trevor Project offers allyship and LGBTQ+ education workshops designed to inform and empower. By learning how to support LGBTQ+ youth, especially those with intersecting identities, we can create safer spaces where every young person can thrive.

Become A Better Ally

By amplifying the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals in the Hispanic community, we help create a future where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s important to recognize the impact that visibility and representation have on LGBTQ+ youth, especially those with intersecting identities. Each act of allyship contributes to a more inclusive world where young people can thrive without fear of discrimination.

Through storytelling, education, and everyday allyship, we can create spaces where LGBTQ+ youth—especially those from Hispanic backgrounds—feel safe, affirmed, and empowered to live authentically. Together, we celebrate the rich diversity that makes our community stronger.

Support from individuals like you enables The Trevor Project to continue our work to end LGBTQ+ youth suicide through our crisis services as well as the development of resources and guides like these to promote education and allyship.
