Why are you challenging another Democrat?
I hear this question all the time on the campaign trail, and it’s a fair question. So let’s talk about it.
The truth is, not all Democrats are created equal, and in a district like CA-34, we deserve more than just someone who holds the line.
We deserve a leader who fights for transformative change — bold policies that address the real struggles working people face every day.
Let’s talk specifics. Why hasn’t the federal minimum wage been raised in almost 20 years? Why haven’t we seen any significant national gun reform or affordable housing movement?
Is it because we lacked the votes for that long?
No.
It’s because the political will among Democrats has weakened.
Too many Democrats are okay with the status quo.
It’s almost as if they’re content with just stalemating with Republicans.
I’m sick and tired of being told we can’t afford to fight for the essentials — healthcare, housing, living wages — because of the looming threat of Donald Trump and his MAGA cronies.
Let’s be honest: How do you think Trump got there in the first place?
It’s because the government stopped showing up for working people.
The political establishment became more interested in protecting corporate profits than addressing the everyday struggles of the middle and working class.
We didn’t get here overnight; we got here because, for years, working people were told to wait their turn, to settle for scraps, while both parties catered to corporate donors.
We’re done waiting. It’s time for us.
We’re in the middle of a decades-long national healthcare crisis. Medicare for All isn’t just an aspirational idea — it’s a necessity.
People shouldn’t have to choose between medical debt or bankruptcy when they need to see a doctor.
But too many Democrats, including my opponent, are fine with keeping the insurance lobby happy rather than pushing for universal healthcare.
And let’s talk about climate change.
Our planet is literally on fire, and yet we still haven’t made the massive climate investments we need to protect our future.
This isn’t about being bold — it’s about survival. The time for half-measures is over.
Affordable housing? The real estate industry has made a killing, while working families are forced out of their homes.
The housing crisis is ravaging Los Angeles, but my opponent is funded by the very same real estate moguls driving up rents.
We have the resources to make these changes happen, but too many Democrats are beholden to the same corporate interests as Republicans.
You can’t fix a broken system if you’re profiting from it.
Our district — and our country — deserve Democrats who will raise the minimum wage, pass Medicare for All, make climate investments, and deliver affordable housing because it’s what we need, not because it’s a nice idea.
This election isn’t about just getting by; it’s about building a future where working people thrive.
That’s why I’m running. I’m not here to play it safe. I’m here to lead.
