John, I remember exactly where I was — driving to work after coffee and breakfast at Eddie’s Place — when I heard Roe v. Wade had been overturned.
I thought I was ready to hear it. I’d worked hard to prepare myself for the shock, but the news still hit me like a punch in the gut. I pulled my car to the side of the road, and I cried.
For a time, I comforted myself in the knowledge that, in North Carolina, our freedom was still safe. Governor Cooper and his veto pen gave us protection from a GOP abortion ban.
I even took a measure of pride as our state became a beacon of freedom; thousands of young women from across the South came to North Carolina for the care they were denied elsewhere.
Then came another punch to the gut — this one from even closer to home. State Rep Tricia Cotham switched parties from Democrat to Republican, giving NC Republicans the veto-proof supermajority they needed to rip away our freedom.
A few weeks later, Cotham cast the deciding vote to ban abortion in North Carolina.
It’s hard to imagine a more powerful, self-serving betrayal. After months on the campaign trail praising Roe v. Wade and promising to defend her fellow women’s freedoms, Cotham chose power over principle.
She sold out her neighbors who voted for her, donated to her and campaigned for her. And she betrayed millions of North Carolinians, to serve her own political career.
That’s when I decided to take action. Now, I’m running for State Representative to defeat Tricia Cotham, break the Republican supermajority, and restore reproductive freedom in North Carolina.

I never want to feel another gut punch like I did when Tricia Cotham cast that vote. I don’t want to see our daughters grow up with fewer freedoms than we had.
We can solve this, but we need to work together. Please chip in to win this race if you’re able.
Thank you,
