Thank you -- I'm so grateful for the responses and engagement we've seen over the past month.

This grassroots community stepped up last month by signing petitions on everything from health care to voting rights, making generous contributions to charities that are helping those in need right now, and strengthening our fight for the Dignity of Work by sharing our message online.

Thank you again. Your grassroots action is more important than ever as we face unparalleled challenges.

There's another important issue I want to talk to you about, too.

Recently, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he would rather let states go bankrupt than give them the critical aid they need to cope with the financial distress brought on by the coronavirus.

In the span of just one week last month, 13,592 workers in Dayton applied for unemployment.

The two things are related -- we'll only see more layoffs if we let local governments and communities go bankrupt because it will lead to severe cuts to everything from libraries and schools to child welfare agencies and safety forces like firefighters.

Will you add your name to mine and demand that McConnell and the Trump Administration include relief for our state and local governments in the next coronavirus package?

It could get worse for cities like Dayton -- nearly 44% of workers in Dayton hold jobs that are considered to be at higher risk for layoffs -- if we don't give them the assistance they need.

Letting our cities and counties go bankrupt would only make it harder on workers and further devastate our economy.

It doesn't have to be that way though.

We urgently need to include relief for our state and local governments in the next coronavirus package. Will you sign our emergency petition before the end of the night?

With gratitude,

Sherrod
