It’s like a gold mine for fraudsters.

We're not saying remove all targeting in Facebook ads. But micro-targeting based on content you previously engaged with could be dangerous. Imagine Trump running ads to anti-vaxxers claiming that a Biden presidency would force everyone to get a Covid vaccine. 

And for now, we can't rely on Facebook to censor Trump's lies, as they shamefully refuse to fact-check political ads. Nor do they provide transparency about what ad content each group is receiving. Between this and their manipulative micro-targeting tool, Facebook has shown us that we simply can't rely on them to shepherd us into this new digital age without major, potentially devastating consequences.
