Ballot drops are less than three weeks away, and we’re just over a month out from the election. This means you’re probably already getting emails and texts for all the issues and candidates you care about, and it’s about to accelerate. It’s go time for our recently-launched No on 2066 campaign.

We need everyone in the state to know why I-2066 is bad for Washington families. I-2066 would increase energy bills. It would require utilities to continue investing in outdated pipelines and technology, and the costs would be passed onto families and businesses.

I-2066 attacks energy efficiency.
It would roll back energy efficiency protections, jeopardize programs, and take away important customer rebates, raising costs for Washington families.

I-2066 is funded by powerful interest groups.
It is part of a nationwide effort by fossil fuel corporations and well-funded interest groups.

FROM 350 ACTION:

There are just six weeks left until Election Day, and the polls are incredibly close.

I don’t need to tell you that this election is make-or-break for our country’s ability — and willingness — to fight the climate crisis. But some voters do need to hear that message.

That’s why 350 Action is partnering with Seed the Vote to deploy in battleground states to urge voters to consider our climate. And we’re asking our most dedicated supporters to join us!

If you want to get involved, or if you’d just like to learn more, join our webinar next Monday, September 30th. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about our plan to get out the vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and other climate champions in critical swing states ahead of November!

Join us!

The reality is that a small handful of battleground states, some of which include Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, will determine the outcome of this election — and determine our ability to progress our climate action over the next four years.

350 Action staff will be helping to coordinate and lead canvassing efforts in the final two weeks before Election Day.

We’ll also provide support with logistics on transportation and housing for those traveling out-of-state to volunteer. And once on site, 350 Action staff will give comprehensive canvassing training so that you can be confident in connecting with community members.

If you’ve been thinking about ramping up your activism ahead of November, our September 30th webinar with Seed the Vote is the perfect opportunity to learn more about getting involved in our GOTV efforts. Click here to RSVP and join us in getting out the vote for VP Kamala Harris!

Join us!

Together,

Candice Fortin - 350 Action

FROM THE GREEN NEW DEAL NETWORK:

Will we, Washington State voters, speak up to protect our climate and GND policies defeating I-2117, I-2066, and other regressive Initiatives on Nov. 5th?  Are we ready to defeat these four destructive state Initiatives to protect our climate and GND policies? Can we do it?

Yes, we are. As Bill McKibben warned us, our greedy opponents and climate justice-seeking  allies are all watching to see how our state votes.  Fortunately, a broad campaign of climate, community, other groups are working together to Defend Washington from these threats.

Yes, we can, if and only if we get the word out now and the next six weeks! We can build and show our power to save our state’s climate progress necessary to win similar policies at our federal level?  By giving our all our groups’ members as well as our families, friends and neighbors, these compelling reasons to vote, we can win. We urge you and your groups to join us in going all out for the next six weeks to persuade and get out the vote no to these initiatives.

Starting right now, we ask you to follow the lead of our Coalition partners to act!  Join Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement action (PSARA) activating their members to flyer and banner at events. Join 350 Seattle folks calling and friend-banking every Thursday. Join South Seattle Climate Action Network (SSCAN), to canvass voters every Saturday at noon at Taco City on Rainier S. or other times and places. You can get involved through Vote No On 2117.

Our Next Meeting
Please join us at our next meeting, Tuesday, October 15th, at noon, to share your group’s GOTV actions and plans. We will also share the new priorities of the Green New Deal Network and discuss which bills to prioritize and promote to our electeds.

Please reply with any questions, suggestions to: [email protected] If you cannot make it, please send us your updates, questions, and your recommendations for action. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Beth at [email protected].

FROM FRIENDS OF SAMMAMISH VALLEY:

The Washington State Supreme Court just ruled on the Adult Beverage Ordinance case. WE WON!!!!!!

The Court upheld the Growth Management Hearings Board’s decision to invalidate Adult Beverage Ordinance 19030. The Ordinance would have allowed alcohol retail and event venues on King County farmland and in rural neighborhoods. The Court ruled that the Ordinance violated both the State Environmental Policy Act and the Growth Management Act. [Here is the link to the decision.]

We will have more details on the ruling and next steps shortly. But meanwhile a very big thank you to all of you who helped make this victory possible! This was truly a massive grass roots team effort to defeat special interest legislation that would have seriously harmed the environment and the people of King County and would have set a negative precedent for the rest of Washington State.
