John,
First, Rep. Rashida Tlaib was the target of a racist, Islamophobic political cartoon in the far-right outlet, the National Review.
Next, major media outlets including CNN and the head of the Anti-Defamation League promoted a harmful and fabricated lie about the Congressmember, misquoting and misrepresenting her remarks about the Michigan Attorney General issuing unjust criminal charges against student protesters.
Then, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, CNN journalists Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, and others continued to push dangerous lies about Rashida despite being fact-checked by the Detroit Metro Times and the reporter of the original article they’re referring to.
Despite the correction, CNN reporters refuse to apologize to Rashida and AG Nessell doubled down on her attacks despite no evidence, perpetuating Rashida’s actual point: there is a clear anti-Palestinian attitude among many institutions, including Congress and the media, that has become far too normalized.
This is what a smear campaign looks like, John. CNN should be ashamed for allowing its journalists to spread blatant lies about Rashida with impunity, but instead, it has prioritized attacking the only Palestinian American Congresswoman over reporting the truth.
Rashida has and will always speak up for the human rights of ALL people despite these vicious attacks against her character, and Justice Democrats has her back.
We will not sit idly by while members of the press and others in power spread lies and misinformation about Rashida, a true champion for equality and peace.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
