If there's a more effective way to limit the impact of people's votes than this plan in Texas -- aside from eliminating the right to vote -- we haven't seen it, John. Opponents of voting rights in Texas would see their power ensconced for generations if this went through.
This shows why we can't afford to write off even one single state in our fight to protect voting rights. RUSH $25 or more right now to make sure every vote truly counts in our elections >> [[link removed]]

Austin American-Statesman -- Opinion: Cherish your vote and our democracy. Both face new challenges in Texas. [[link removed]]
John,
There's no way to sugarcoat this: A major party is advocating for a constitutional change in Texas that would codify their power and control into the state constitution . From the Austin American-Statesman:
" The Texas Republican Party platform now calls for a state constitutional amendment to create another requirement for winning statewide office: In addition to winning the most votes statewide, a candidate would have to win a majority of the votes in a majority of Texas’ 254 counties. "
This would create a mini-Electoral College just within Texas itself, with one vote for each county. Harris County, home to Houston and nearly 5 million people, would count exactly the same as Loving County, whose population during the 2020 census was recorded as 64 people .
For example, Texas' current governor won reelection with only 55% of the popular vote but "won" 235 counties. This constitutional amendment, if passed, would guarantee no other party could win a statewide election without taking away all those rural, deeply conservative counties. Opponents of voting rights want to use land, not people, to keep themselves in power permanently.
They're openly advocating for anti-democratic rules to limit the impact of people's votes just because they want to stay in control, John. Fuel our efforts to stop dangerous bills, laws, and amendments like this with $25 or whatever you can today and make sure our votes really count >> [[link removed]]

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
