Hello John,
I'm not running the School Board Integrity Project because I love defeating book-banners (I do!) or because it's critical that we don't cede this ground to extremists (it is!).
This is personal to me. When I was in school in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, fellow LGBTQ+ students and I faced overwhelming bullying – if the school district wasn't actively encouraging it, they were certainly ignoring it.
We fought back, winning a groundbreaking discrimination settlement against the district, which included a Department Of Justice and Department Of Education intervention, changing the culture of the district for all the students who followed us.
Until now. Closed-minded extremists are taking over school boards across the state including in my home district of Anoka-Hennepin.
That's why I founded the School Board Integrity Project last year, and it's why I need your help today.
Together, we can ensure that our schools are safe for every child to grow and learn.
In solidarity,
