Friend — My decision to run for Congress started with the people in this photo.
That’s my mother, my two little girls, and me. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without them.
Growing up, I saw the challenges my single mother faced raising my brother and me on a nurse’s schedule and budget. We’d spend our Sunday afternoons clipping coupons together to save anything we could on our grocery bill.
Despite the difficulties she endured, my mother worked hard to make sure we could pursue our dreams. She also taught us the importance of serving our community and doing what’s right.
It wasn’t until I became a mother myself that I finally understood just how difficult it can be in this country to raise a family. The truth is, there’s a huge lack of support for parents.
When my husband and I welcomed our oldest two weeks into the pandemic, we were shocked to see the bill that came later. I wondered what single mothers or families less fortunate than us would do facing a mountain of medical debt along with their new babies.
Unfortunately, things didn’t get better from there — in our search for child care we encountered astronomical daycare prices and waitlists up to two years long.
Again I wondered how other families would navigate such a hurdle, and I realized how badly we needed someone in Washington who would fix this.
I’m running for Congress because I believe there aren’t enough leaders fighting to support parents and make raising a family more affordable.
I promise to give 100% to fighting for affordable child care and paid family leave — and I’ll work to reduce the inflation crisis that’s affecting us all.
But friend, I can’t do it alone. I’m counting on this grassroots team to help me get there. So I am humbly asking for your support.
