Team,
This week we reached yet another grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic, as almost 70,000 Americans have died as a result of it. We can’t allow ourselves to become numb to the terrible toll this virus is taking on our nation and the world, and we must direct all our efforts to save lives.
That’s the focus of House Democrats, and that is why we asked Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the leaders of the Administration’s response, to testify before Congress this week. Congress, and the American people, need to hear from Dr. Fauci directly about the plan to bring the virus under control and what else Congress can provide. That’s called doing our job.
But instead of letting Dr. Fauci testify, President Trump and the White House are blocking him and all other officials involved in the coronavirus response from testifying.
President Trump’s lack of respect for the separation of powers and Congress’s oversight authority are hardly new, but he continues to try to undermine them at every turn.
Not only that, Trump just announced he’s planning to push out the Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services, who he has previously attacked because last month she released a report on the dire lack of personal protective equipment in hospitals around the country. In other words, she was doing her job too.
This is now the third inspector general Trump will have fired since April, demonstrating that once again, he’s seeking to crush transparency and accountability, and Americans will suffer as a result.
We know what the President is doing, team: he’s attacking, silencing, and firing anyone who criticizes him or just tells the truth about his disastrous response to this public health crisis.
For the sake of the American people, we need the truth. That means that officials, experts and cabinet secretaries must testify, and that we in Congress must be able to do our jobs by pressing for answers and collecting the facts.
If you believe that holding Trump accountable for his actions and stopping his propagation of false information during this pandemic is more important than ever, add your name alongside mine to demand he allow officials like Dr. Fauci to testify. [[link removed]]

Adam
