There’s no easy way to say this. We have a problem.

Hi John

Terri here from Fight for the Future. You don’t hear from me very often. As our Chief Financial Officer I mostly work behind the scenes, keeping our finances in order and making sure we have the resources we need to run our campaigns.

There’s no easy way to say this. We have a problem. I just closed the books on our last quarter, and we’re more than $28,000 behind where we need to be to cover our costs.

And to make matters worse, so many people are out of work right now due to COVID-19, that we’ve gotten a flood of emails from people who have (understandably) had to cancel their monthly donations, even though they passionately support our work.

So I’m asking you personally, if you’re fortunate enough to be in a position to do so, will you become a monthly donor to Fight for the Future? Even $5 or $10 a month can make a huge difference. And whether you give monthly or just once, your contribution will be matched by a generous donor thanks to #GivingTuesdayNow!

Yes! I will chip in a small amount monthly.

Sorry, I can’t commit to give monthly, but I’ll make a one-time donation right now.

We know that many people will not be able to support right now. If you’re out of work or otherwise struggling, please know that we completely understand and that we’re thinking of you and fighting for you.

The campaigns team has been working around the clock. Right now we’re working to:

  • Support firefighters and other emergency workers who are calling on the FCC to restore net neutrality, as a matter of public safety

  • Flood Congress with emails and phone calls demanding that the next stimulus package contains funding to ensure access to a free and open Internet for all, rather than a bailout to Big Telecom executives

  • Oppose attempts by governments and corporations to exploit the COVID-19 crisis to undermine human rights, crack down on free expression, or expand invasive surveillance programs, especially the use of facial recognition.

  • Stop the dangerous EARN IT Act, which poses an existential threat to encryption technology that keeps us safe and to basic freedom of speech on the Internet.

I am always blown away by how much we get done as such a small team. Our work defending civil liberties and Internet freedom has never been more important. And having seen the budgets of much larger organizations, I’m proud of the way we stretch every single donation to have the maximum impact.

But I’ve seen the numbers. And I can tell you that with the budget shortfall we’re facing, we’ll have no choice but to scale back these crucial and time-sensitive campaigns, unless all of our supporters who are able to chip in. Will you be the hero we need?

Go here to set up a monthly donation with just a couple clicks.

If you can’t give monthly, we understand! You can make a one-time donation here.

Either way, since today is #GivingTuesdayNow, your donation will be DOUBLED by a generous donor. So if you give $5 a month, we’ll turn that into $10 a month. If you give $25 right now, we’ll turn that into $50.

We’re such a small organization that every penny really does matter, and every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.

If you can’t give right now, don’t worry. Please keep signing petitions, making phone calls, taking actions, and reading our emails. That’s a huge help too. And most of all, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during these trying times.

Thanks for reading,

Terri at Fight for the Future

P.S. If you’re in a position to make a larger donation but want to talk to us about it first, please just hit reply. We read the email that we get and we’d be happy to chat. We also accept cryptocurrencies, if that’s your thing :-) Here’s a direct link to our donate page, so you have it handy: https://fightforthefuture.org/donate
