I know we’ve asked a lot of you in this campaign, so I thought you deserved an explanation for why your support matters so much.

I truly love my job. Every single morning I wake up with the opportunity to do work that will help people realize the dreams and the aspirations they have for themselves and their families.

I wish I could spend every second of every day working to pass legislation that will increase wages, reduce gun violence, protect our democracy and your rights, or lower your health care costs.

But the truth is there’s another piece of this job that takes time: running for re-election. And with that comes a significant need to raise money — to make sure that my campaign and Democrats up and down the ticket have the resources to win.

It’s not easy. Most politicians spend hour after hour in “call time” — sitting in a windowless room asking people for money. It can make you feel more like a telemarketer than a Senator.

Now, I have to admit - I am lucky. I made a bet a long time ago that by focusing more on the work of being a legislator and limiting the amount of time I spend calling for money, people would appreciate that approach and have my back when I needed it. The response to date has been gratifying.

I made that bet because I believed you would step up and help fund my campaign. But it does mean I need to ask for your support — especially on days like this with an FEC deadline in 3 days. So what do you say?

Will you please consider making a $3 donation to my re-election before Monday’s FEC deadline? I need everyone who shares our progressive values to pitch in if possible. The progress we’ve won has only been possible because of people like you stepping up on days like today.

The emails I send and the small-dollar donations I receive are a primary driver of fundraising for my re-election. In fact, these donations make up the overwhelming majority of donations to my campaign.

Your support allows me to really focus on the work you want me to do, and it helps me be a better Senator. There are a lot of important fights still ahead of us, and I intend to do my part to lead and win them in the U.S. Senate.
