Both of these Congresswomen know a thing or two about beating the odds.

Delia, a housing advocate and former state representative, defeated a
crowded field to become the first Latina Congresswoman from the Midwest.
Her mother was pregnant with Delia when she crossed the Rio Grande.

Summer, an organizer and state representative, defeated millions of
outside spending from AIPAC to become the first Black woman elected to
Congress in Pennsylvania.

The path to Congress was anything but easy for Delia and Summer – it still
isn’t. As Teen Vogue notes, “Reps. Lee and Ramirez are navigating an
institution that wasn't built for people like them.”

The profile shines a light on how both of these young, working-class,
progressive women of color were figuring out how to afford rent in D.C.
after leaving their full-time jobs to serve in Congress.

Now, they’re roommates in a three-bedroom house sharing the experience of
serving the people, sometimes facing uncomfortable conversations with
colleagues who have no idea what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck.
