John -
At CREW, we’re not on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 (and we join you in applauding every day those who are), but we are pushing for oversight of the pandemic response, ensuring that your tax dollars are going where they’re most needed and that democracy survives this crisis.
I have been concerned about this administration’s ethical failures since the very beginning, but the secrecy, conflicts of interest, and attacks on watchdogs that have characterized the Trump administration’s pandemic response have made me more alarmed by the day. None of this is normal. In fact, it is terrifying that this administration’s defiance of facts and accountability is likely costing people their lives.
Despite the dire realities that we are facing, there’s something that keeps me from losing hope: millions of Americans who are outraged about corruption and aren’t going to let it go.
And here at CREW, we’re keeping up the fight against corruption every day, no matter what.
If you’d like to help us continue the fight, a generous donor is matching up to $10,000 in contributions to CREW for today only as part of “Giving Tuesday Now,” an emergency response to the pandemic.
We are by no means the front line workers fighting COVID-19, and we know that many people are experiencing pressing needs every day. But if you are concerned about government accountability during the pandemic and are able to help, please consider making a matched donation now to support our crucial anti-corruption work.
We’ve filed ethics complaints about Senators Richard Burr and Kelly Loeffler possibly profiting from nonpublic information about the pandemic by trading stocks after a Congressional briefing. We’ve filed complaints about Jared Kushner’s shadow coronavirus task force, which is operating in secret and appears to violate conflict of interest, transparency, and recordkeeping laws. We’ve raised the alarm about President Trump’s attacks on Inspectors General and oversight and about tax giveaways in the stimulus that could benefit Trump and Kushner. And we’ll keep investigating and taking legal action to push for accountability and transparency, no matter what.
We recognize that many are facing lost or reduced employment due to the pandemic and may not be able to help today. If that’s you, our thoughts are with you, and your moral support for the fight to defend democracy is enough. But, for others, if you’re in a position to help, please consider making a matched donation today—it will go twice as far in helping us fight for accountable, ethical government. The stakes for our republic have never been higher.
Thank you for your support—we couldn’t do it without you.
