Last week, we shared a heartbreaking and truly infuriating story about a woman in Georgia who tragically died due to lack of access to modern, standard reproductive healthcare. Doctors let Amber Thurman, a 28-year-old mother of a six-year-old boy, suffer in pain for 20 hours before they finally intervened – by then, it was too late.

Another pregnant mother, Candi Miller, was too afraid to even enter a hospital because she understood that Georgia’s abortion ban might criminalize her or any doctors who tried to help her. Her death has left three young children in Georgia without a mother.

Plain and simple: We are no longer going to sit back as rooms full of men make laws about our bodies. Women are dying at the hands of these majority-male legislatures.

Here is a look at some of our Georgia candidates:

✅ Debra Shigley for Georgia State House Representative District 47: Debra is a mother of five, an attorney, and a former news anchor. Her opponent is an extremely conservative woman named Jan Jones, who has recently been endorsed by “Frontline Policy Action,” an organization that advocates for biblical values and supports candidates who would affirm those values in office. Her opponent helped to push through the 6-week abortion ban currently in place in Georgia.

✅ Danielle Bell for Georgia State House of Representatives District 44: Danielle is a military wife, the mother of young children, a social worker, and a small business owner. She plans to promote equality in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. She told us she’d start by advocating for policies that can address the maternal healthcare crisis in Georgia and restore abortion access. She is running against a man who has been in this seat for nearly 30 years – since 1995 – who voted in support of the 6-week abortion ban in Georgia.

✅ Susie Greenberg for Georgia State House of Representatives District 53: Susie has a 40-year history of fighting for women's healthcare and reproductive rights. Beginning in college in the 1980s, she was a patient escort for a reproductive healthcare clinic and worked through the decades as a strong advocate, including serving as a board member of Planned Parenthood Southeast and NCJW Atlanta. She is running to unseat an anti-choice Republican incumbent Representative who has repeatedly failed to protect women and doctors in Georgia. This is the top target race in the state and our best chance of replacing an anti-choice legislator in Georgia’s House of Representatives.
