Fellow Conservative,
Both chambers of Congress went into recess on Thursday and will not return until after the November elections. They have returned to their home states to campaign for their upcoming elections and meet face to face with their constituents.
This gives you an opportunity to contact them more directly by attending events or visiting their district office to make your voice heard on the issues you care about most.
Here are some things to look for:
- Watch for town halls or events where your member is speaking! Subscribing to their congressional newsletter and watching local group meeting announcements can inform you of where they will be visiting in the district.
- Schedule a meeting with your member. While their calendars are quickly filling up, you can reach out to your member’s office and ask for a meeting—arrange for a few Sentinels to go with you, and meet as a group! Here are some Tips for Visiting Your Member of Congress’ Office. <[link removed]> Your state director is happy to help you put together some questions for your visit!
- Get to know their staff. Congressional staff often travel to the district with their bosses during recess. Key relationships with staff can be just as effective at making sure your message is heard by your member of Congress. Here is a guide to Your Member of Congress’ Staff. <[link removed]> Be sure to ask for their business card!
Face to face meetings and interactions with your member of Congress or staff is one of the most effective ways to share your thoughts!
Update: What about the money?
Before Congress left, they passed a continuing resolution (CR) in time to avert a government shutdown. The CR extended government funding until December 20th, when it will expire again and more funding will need to be approved.
Unfortunately, this situation sets up the worst case funding scenario for the American people–but they need to hear from you to stop it! With a government funding deadline set just before Christmas, it sets up Congress to pass another bloated omnibus which will likely be filled with Democrat and lame-duck spending priorities that will cement their policy agenda in the federal budget for another year.
Heritage Action has consistently supported a six-month CR, setting up funding to expire in March 2025, when there will be a new Congress potentially more favorable to conservative priorities. Unfortunately, 206 Democrats and 14 Republicans voted against this bill and stopped it from passing (see how your representative voted). <[link removed]>
When Congress faces another government funding deadline in December, Heritage Action will not support an omnibus. The best path forward now is to pass a second CR that expires in early 2025. Speaker Johnson has verbally committed to this course of action and we encourage him to stick to it.
A second CR would save money and give the newly-elected Congress an opportunity to legislate as soon as they take their seats.

In Case You Missed It
Harris is running from her own ideas
Heritage Action's President Dr. Kevin Roberts penned an op-ed <[link removed]> in Real Clear Policy on Wednesday highlighting Kamala Harris’ unwillingness to engage with serious questions, specifically about her views on energy policy.
Her dodging of these questions reveals that she knows they are unpopular. Her energy policies would cripple the fracking industry in states like Pennsylvania and damage American auto manufacturers that provide thousands of jobs in states like Michigan.
He writes:
“The people being discarded by the climate change revolution are America’s hardworking men and women, as well as the global poor. The “fossil-fuel society” that they disparage is also the foundation of the American Dream, where everyday people could work hard, get ahead, own things, and pass them on to their children.”
Kamala Harris will never be totally honest with the American people about the true cost of her policies. She knows all too well that voters would reject her radical beliefs.

The Truth about the Abortion Pill
For the past few weeks, Vice President Harris and the media have been trying to blame the tragic deaths of two Georgian women, Candi Miller and Amber Thurman, on pro-life legislation at the state level.
They are wrong.
Nearly every claim that is made about these cases are demonstrably false. They completely miss the real lesson from these stories, which is that the abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol are incredibly dangerous and severely under-regulated, given the risks.
>>>Read the facts HERE<<< <[link removed]>
Democrats have worked to make abortion drugs easier to access by removing the requirement to attain a doctor’s permission to receive them and allowing them to be purchased online and delivered through the mail–to be consumed outside the supervision of medical providers given the life-threatening side effects these pills cause.
Democrats have shown a blatant disregard for the safety of women by under-informing them of the dangers of these drugs and then baselessly blaming pro-life legislation when women are injured or killed by them.
Women deserve better. And Heritage Action will continue to demand they get it.
Thank you for helping us hold the government accountable to the people.
