Huge news, friend!
Just days ago, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a suite of gun safety bills into law, including THREE Brady-sponsored bills and over a DOZEN bills endorsed by Brady!
The Brady priority bills signed into law will ensure all California gun owners safely store their firearms in a certified locked container when in the home, bolster transparency on gun dealer oversight, and ensure firearms seized or surrendered by law enforcement are destroyed in their entirety and not resold.
These new laws couldn’t be more timely, especially the one mandating safe firearm storage in the home.
We know that 76% of school shooters access their firearms from the home or the home of a close relative — a reality we witnessed just recently with the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Additionally, over 5 million new gun owners between 2019-2022 brought firearms into homes that were previously gun-free and only 54% of first-time gun owners report storing all firearms locked and unloaded. This underscores the need for safe firearm storage, and now, California has a solution that has been hailed as one of the strongest safe storage bills in America.
This win for public safety wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible work of state policymakers and advocates, including Brady’s grassroots network which mobilized thousands of voices in support of these bills and demonstrated the strength of collective action — so thank you!
California is a leader in the movement to end gun violence, friend. And this latest victory creates a national blueprint for other states to follow to prevent gun violence and save lives. Will you please consider supporting our life-saving efforts with a gift today? Just like we won big in California, we can do the same in states across the country. [[link removed]]

White House Unveils New Executive Actions to Stop Gun Violence
The Biden-Harris administration continues to prove why they are the strongest gun safety administration in our nation’s history.
This week, the Biden-Harris administration released their most recent round of executive actions [[link removed]] to prevent gun violence. Brady Chief Programs and Policy Officer Christian Heyne and Brady Senior Consultant Fred Guttenberg were honored to join a ceremony announcing the efforts alongside President Biden, Vice President Harris, and fellow gun violence survivors and advocates.

The actions come as we celebrate the one year anniversary of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention — an office successfully advocated for by Brady and our partners in the movement. The office and the entire Biden-Harris administration have taken extraordinary steps toward ending the gun violence epidemic in America, and this recent round of executive actions is just another example of their historic progress. These actions build on the dozens of others the Biden-Harris administration enacted since 2022, many of which Brady advocated for and recommended.
Please join us in celebrating this victory for gun violence prevention! You can read more on our website or make your voice heard on social media!
Sample Social Message: Because of tireless action by the @WHOGVP46 we are seeing historic progress in gun violence prevention. Thank you to @POTUS @VP & @WHOGVP46 for their life-saving work. We’re excited to see all this office will continue to accomplish! #EndGunViolence @BradyBuzz [[link removed]]

Brady’s Dr. Joe Sakran Leads Roundtable With Members of Congress
[[link removed]]
On September 23, Dr. Joe Sakran [[link removed]] , Brady’s board chair, chief medical officer, and leader of our This Is Our Lane [[link removed]] campaign, spoke to members of the House Oversight Committee about school shootings and the toll that everyday gun violence has on communities and families across the country.
The roundtable convened on the anniversary of when Dr. Sakran experienced gun violence firsthand. At just 17, he was nearly killed after being shot in the throat with a 38-caliber bullet after a high school football game. Dr. Sakran spoke to the committee as a gun violence survivor — sharing his story and lived experience with gun violence.
As a trauma surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Sakran witnesses the effects of gun violence first hand as trauma centers at large treat over 1,500 gunshot victims every day, including many minors. During the roundtable, Dr. Sakran also spoke of the economic costs of gun violence, the trauma that patients face who survive being shot, and the disproportionate impact of gun violence on Black and Brown communities.
“Gun violence doesn’t just kill people — it harms community life, limits business growth, and disrupts educational systems.”
— Dr. Sakran
He finished his testimony by calling on Congress to address the root causes of gun violence, including easy access to firearms. You can join Dr. Sakran in his call to action by urging Congress to expand Brady Background Checks. [[link removed]]
