ACLU Supporter –

While so much of our daily lives have been upended by the pandemic, one thing that hasn't stopped is our fight to defend people's most fundamental rights.

Since the start of the outbreak, the ACLU and our affiliates have filed over 100 legal actions across the country. Our attorneys and organizers are working nationwide, advocating for people especially vulnerable to COVID-19 to be released from prisons, jails and detention centers, safeguarding our right to vote, protecting access to abortion, and guarding against unjustified government overreach.

But we urgently need you with us today as the pandemic continues to present serious threats to our civil liberties and democracy. So if you're in a position to give, we're asking you to support our critical efforts as part of #GivingTuesdayNow – a global day of unity in response to COVID-19.

Support from dedicated people like you has already enabled the ACLU to be an agile force for protecting lives and liberties during this crisis, including through:

* Protecting our right to vote. With ongoing presidential primaries and the general election in November, it's imperative that every eligible voter has access to safe mail-in voting. We're in courts in Georgia, Montana, Missouri, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia to make sure that happens.

* Making the case for decarceration. Keeping people out of jail and detention centers in this crisis unequivocally saves lives. To date, more than 20,000 people have been released from prisons and jails or prevented from entering the criminal legal system at all. ACLU attorneys across the country have also filed over 30 lawsuits against ICE detention centers nationwide.

* Defending abortion rights. We're pushing back on states and politicians who are weaponizing the COVID-19 crisis to go after reproductive freedom. Nine states have faced litigation for moving to prevent access to abortion during the pandemic, but abortion care remains accessible after filings by the ACLU, our state affiliates, and our partners.

ACLU Supporter, we know the last two months have changed many things, but nothing will change our determination to uphold the freedoms of everyone across America. We hope this holds true for you, too.

Now, more than ever, 'We the People' means all of us. So if you're able to at this moment, please donate to make #GivingTuesdayNow a powerful day for civil liberties.
