Dear A.,

Tonight, Israel struck a compound in the heart of Beirut based on intelligence that Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah was conducting a meeting in the facility. While his death has yet to be publicly confirmed, the strike destroyed six buildings, and intelligence indicates that it would be very difficult for Nasrallah to have survived if he was, in fact, in that location.

Hassan Nasrallah has led Hezbollah for decades and is responsible for killing Americans and Israelis, bombing American embassies, and ordering terror attacks around the world. His death would be akin to America killing Osama Bin Laden and would rid the world of one of the most dangerous terrorists.

Footage showed massive plumes of smoke emanating from the site of the airstrikes, which the military said served as "the epicenter of Hezbollah’s terror."

"After almost a year of Hezbollah firing rockets, missiles, and suicide drones at Israeli civilians, after almost a year of Israel warning the world and telling them that Hezbollah must be stopped, Israel is doing what every sovereign state in the world would do if they had a terror organization that seeks their destruction on their border, taking the necessary action to protect our people so that Israeli families can live in their homes, safely and securely," IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said in a press conference.

While Israel continues to attack Hezbollah weapons and commanders across Lebanon to enable tens of thousands of Israelis to return to their homes, the missile defense systems we lobby for together are saving countless lives.

The full array of Israel’s defense capabilities that Congress helps fund each year has been used in the last few days:
-
On Wednesday morning, Israel’s David’s Sling

shot down a 2,000-pound missile launched by Hezbollah toward central Israel.
-
Last night, Arrow

intercepted a missile launched by the Houthis at Tel Aviv.
-
And every hour, Iron Dome is shooting down incoming rockets and drones from the north. Our work together over decades is ensuring Israel has the resources it needs to defend its families and take the fight to the terrorists.

Below are more key news items from the week and ways for you to take action.

Security Council Resolution 1701: The Diplomatic Solution the U.N. Failed to Implement

The war in Lebanon is a direct result of Iran’s funding and arming of Hezbollah, and the failure of the U.N. and the Lebanese government to implement Security Council Resolution 1701.

AIPAC's Deputy Director for Policy and Government Affairs, Deb Saxon, breaks down the resolution in this 3-minute

Netanyahu Speaks at U.N. General Assembly

This morning, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the U.N. General Assembly and defended Israel's actions to protect its families from Iran-backed terrorism on seven fronts.

"I didn’t intend to come here this year. My country is at war, fighting for its life. But after I heard the lies and slanders leveled at my country by many of the speakers at this podium, I decided to come here and set the record straight," the Prime Minister began.

"Israel will win this battle. We’ll win this battle because we don’t have a choice," Netanyahu concluded. "After generations in which our people were slaughtered, remorselessly butchered, and no one raised a finger in our defense, we now have a state. We now have a brave army, an army of incomparable courage, and we are defending ourselves."

Opposition Leader Yair Lapid Slams Sanders Resolutions to Block Arms Sales to Israel

Today, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid forcefully rejected the anti-Israel effort led by Senator Bernie Sanders to deny Israel the weapons it needs to target terrorists and prevent attacks against Israelis.

"This bill would undermine Israel’s ability to defend ourselves against the brutal terrorists who carried out the horrors of October 7th and those planning to carry out the next atrocity against Israeli men, women and children," Lapid

said .

"It would send the dangerous message that America abandons its allies when they are under attack and that terrorism is rewarded. It is exactly what Sinwar, Nasrallah and Khamenei want to see."

"As Leader of the Opposition, as someone who believes a deal to bring back the hostages should be our top priority and who has called for a change in our policy - I hope all Senators who care about Israel and are committed to our shared values reject this bill."

Houthis Fire 23 Missiles and Drones at U.S. Navy

The same Iranian-backed terrorists who fire ballistic missiles and drones at Israel are now

attacking our Navy ships.

Today, the U.S. Navy intercepted a barrage of Houthi ballistic missiles, drones and cruise missiles in the Red Sea.

The Houthis said that they were targeting three U.S. destroyers.

America and Israel are in this fight together against the same shared enemies. America must stand with Israel and fully enforce sanctions against Iran.

U.S.-Led Proposal for Lebanon Ceasefire

Earlier this week, the United States along with allies from around the world, called for a 21-day ceasefire across the Israel-Lebanon border.

The

statement – which was coordinated with Israel – called for the pause in fighting "to provide space for diplomacy towards the conclusion of a diplomatic settlement consistent with UNSCR 1701."

This morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued the following

statement : "Israel shares the aims of the U.S.-led initiative of enabling people along our northern border to return safely and securely to their homes. Israel appreciates the U.S. efforts in this regard because the U.S. role is indispensable in advancing stability and security in the region. Our teams met (Thursday, Sept. 26) to discuss the U.S. initiative and how we can advance the shared goal of returning people safely to their homes. We will continue those discussions in the coming days."

America must continue to stand with Israel and ensure our ally has the resources it needs to defend its families and safely return the 80,000 displaced Israelis to their homes.

What is U.N. Security Resolution 1701?

#StandWithIsrael

Oppose anti-Israel resolutions to stop weapons to Israel
Senators Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch and Jeff Merkley introduced resolutions to block vital weapons shipments to Israel.

These dangerous resolutions are meant to erode Israel's security, undermine the U.S.-Israel alliance, and weaken America and our ally.

As Iran and its proxies attack Israel, these senators want to leave it vulnerable and alone.

ACTION NEEDED: Urge Congress to reject these dangerous resolutions.
