"Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost."
- Thomas Jefferson
Sunday was World Press Freedom Day, and john, nearly every day, President Trump, his Administration, and his loyalists like Bill Hagerty go out of their way to undermine the press.
Trump's endless attacks on the press endanger our government, our democracy, and our national security.

The Founders knew the importance of a free press -- that's why they enshrined it in our Bill of Rights. The press exists to speak truth to power, provide the public with critical information, and holds leaders accountable.
But Trump has relentlessly demonized the media and journalists during rallies, calling stories he doesn't like "fake news", or hoaxes, and calling the press the "enemy of the people."
Rubber stamps like Marsha Blackburn and now Bill Hagerty have stood by these attacks on our free press and even echoed them.
But just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean they aren't true.
When I was flying Black Hawk helicopters in Iraq, I couldn't choose to ignore how much fuel was left in the tank or what our altitude was.
The president's assault on a free press has eroded public trust in fact-based reporting, and that's particularly dangerous during a health crisis. A recent report found 62% of Americans believed the media was exaggerating the risks posed by COVID-19.
Freedom of the press is an essential liberty that I've fought to defend on the battlefield and in the courtroom, and we must protect it.
