Dear John,
This week, the House passed our bipartisan bill to maximize efforts to bring microchip manufacturing back to America and create jobs! Democrats and Republicans came together to pass my bill, the Building Chips in America Act to streamline federal environmental reviews for microchip projects supported by the CHIPS and Science Act. It will speed up the process of bringing domestic manufacturing home while keeping our air and water clean.
We passed the CHIPS and Science Act into law in 2022 to boost American manufacturing and rebuild our supply chains here at home. The law is already being implemented, and is helping to incentivize the local production of semiconductor chips, which are found in so many essential items from cell phones to medical devices to cars.
The CHIPS and Science Act has already invested billions of federal dollars in Texas and brought home thousands of jobs including:
- 22,000 jobs at Samsung in Taylor
- 2,000 jobs at Texas Instruments in North Texas
- 2,500 jobs at GlobalWafers in Sherman
The CHIPS Act is a huge opportunity for Texas and the nation to invest in microchip manufacturing and grow the semiconductor industry, but to do that we must ensure these projects can get approved quickly. That’s why I’m so grateful my Building Chips in America Act passed the House with bipartisan support and is headed to the President’s desk!
We can do big things if we work together. I look forward to this legislation becoming law and continuing to create jobs and deliver for Texas.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
