You can strike gold this weekend - the aspen are beautiful throughout our sites - and it's National Public Lands Day on Saturday the 28th meaning all day use fees are waived! Read on to find out where you can volunteer to celebrate.

Have you ever taken the Forest Service Loop Road from Sinks to South Pass City? I did it today and the trees couldn't be any more beautiful. The road is a bumpy one - hang on! South Pass City is open for a few more weeks!

Wyoming Wildflower Women have been busy! This September we took 17 women rock climbing in Sinks Canyon, sponsored by Bronco Wild Fund. I myself have never been rock climbing - and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it!

We also hosted a fly fishing weekend at beautiful Medicine Lodge State Archeological Site in Hyattville. Eighteen women joined to start with the basics and work up to putting a fly in the water! We had camaraderie, campfires, a cultural experience, and time well spent in Wyoming's fall.

We had women attend like Anna from Cheyenne - it's her sixth women's campout with me in the last two years! Cori, pictured here, has been to four!

Special thanks to superintendent Heather, trades specialist Lyndi, and Clarke and Leslie for guiding! This weekend of fly fishing was co-hosted by the Office of Outdoor Recreation, represented by outreach coordinator Laurel who guided the more advanced group. We are so lucky to have Laurel in our state representing OREC - she's very knowledgeable and inviting. I'm grateful to have her skills to help make these full weekends run so smoothly.

Want to join in? I'm coming to Laramie/Cheyenne! My friend Adam McKay, superintendent of Curt Gowdy, is hosting us in October. You can join in on classes in Animal Awareness, Outdoor Survival, and Leave No Trace. Sign up and check out more information here: [link removed].

Surprise! The Shoshone District welcomed two new ferrets to the crew. These two were transferred to us from the National Black-footed Ferret Conservation Center, a facility through USFWS. Kyle and I visited the facility last August and were impressed with the great impact they're making for North America's most rare mammal. Black-footed ferrets are bred, observed, and released from this facility. Another avenue for ferret reintroduction is cloning. Part of this process requires domestic ferret surrogate mothers and litter mates. Shep (the dog who found the ferret colony) and Hogg (the family whose ranch it was) were surrogate litter mates.

Live animals help folks to connect with these stories. Rather than black-footed ferrets being rare, separate, and somewhat nebulous, a domestic ferret in hand can show off its huge canines and slink around to show what tunnel living would be like in the wild!

We were recently in Gulf Shores, Alabama for a conference of the National Association of State Park Directors. Representatives from all fifty states sit in this group, whether they're directors, commissioners, deputy directors or so on. Forty-six states represented America's State Parks at Gulf State Park!

The aurora has really been showing up at Sinks Canyon! This one was the night before the full Harvest Moon.

The Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources commissioners met in Lander this month! They toured South Pass City and Sinks Canyon - and had a special meet and greet with some VIP State Parks ambassadors.

The interpretive ranger position was created in 2021 and I'm the first and only to have held it. The way I count, I have hosted 16 campouts, helped with three BioBlitz, two Project Learning Trees, three Gold Rush Days, and three Rendezvous in the last 1,095 days.  In my time here I've received $56k in grants and helped out on $20k+ more. I've presented at three national conferences, gained certifications in CIG, LNT, and PLT and taught them all. In the last year I went through CPNR and State Park Leadership School, was awarded WRPA's Outstanding Young Professional, accepted the Gold Medal Finalist award alongside Kyle, and had a documentary and PBS special made on my work. sunset with folks standing in a field I often hear "we never had any of this before you got here". Though many sites did some level of interp, that's largely true at other sites and in towns. This position was created to add all those things we've been able to bring to the table! I credit my supervisors Kyle Bernis and Nick Neylon for seeing the need and making the position happen - and then for spending three years supporting the efforts.
