Cinco de Mayo is celebrated because the resilience and determination of the Mexican Army was able to overcome and defeat the larger, better equipped, and more experienced French Army. This resilience and determination is reflective of the Mexican people and their ability to overcome the steep odds they have faced throughout their history
Our campaign has not fought any literal battles, but we have overcome many obstacles and setbacks.
I entered this campaign first, but was quickly branded the underdog as more high-profile candidates entered the race. We traveled to the four corners of Colorado talking to everyday people, while other candidates held high donor fundraisers in big cities. We built a grassroots army, while other candidates relied on outspending us to buy their way onto the ballot.
Now, we are just one of three candidates on the ballot out of twenty-one. Our strategy of building a people powered campaign has resulted in the upset of some better funded and more well-known candidates. We continue to overcome the odds on a daily basis!
