*Improving
Access to Safe Drinking Water*

I joined the Pittsburgh Water and
Sewer Authority (PWSA) last week to celebrate the construction
progress on the new Highland Reservoir Pump Station. This new facility
is focused on modernizing the PWSA system and providing all residents
with reliable access to clean, safe drinking water, even during power
outages or water main breaks.

The Pennsylvania Constitution
guarantees us all the right to clean water. Investing in these
infrastructure projects ensures that we can all access safe, healthy
drinking water in our homes. I'm proud to support these projects at
PWSA and across the district!

take a big step towards construction of the new Etna Center for
Community this week! Thanks to the Borough of Etna and Etna Community
Organization for all of your work in making this dream become a
reality.

*Innamorato
Signs First Executive Order Improving County Worker
Benefits*

Congratulations to Allegheny County Executive Sara
Innamorato on the signing of her first Executive Order, Allegheny
H.I.R.E.S.!

By using her first Executive Order to focus on
bettering the experience for workers under her charge, County
Executive Innamorato is leading by example. The benefits being
considered here are ones that make a real difference in the lives of
employees - like access to quality, affordable child care and family
care, or giving people the chance to further their education and
advance in their career without stepping out of the workforce.
Prioritizing the employees of Allegheny County is going to make a huge
difference in their lives and in turn, create better services for the
residents of Allegheny County.

*Recovery
and Nature*

September is National Recovery Month and the Three
Rivers Heritage Trail in Pittsburgh's Point State Park is one of 9
trails that is part of the PA Recovery in Nature program!

This
initiative, which was created by the PA Department of Drug and Alcohol
Programs and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources,
promotes trails and waterways across the Commonwealth as a way to
heal. Spending time in nature boosts everyone's physical and mental
health. In DCNR's outdoor recreation plan, *65% of Pennsylvanians
surveyed believe that parks and trails should be considered an
essential part of the healthcare system. *

Head out to the Three
Rivers Heritage Trail [link 12] or any of our beautiful Allegheny
County Parks [link 13] whenever you can this fall - your body and mind
will thank you!

*The Week Without Driving*

Hundreds of thousands of
people across the Commonwealth don't drive- whether that's because of
age, illness, access, or other factors. But what drivers and
non-drivers have in common is that we all deserve a transportation
system that gets us to where we're going safely and
efficiently.

Want to help raise awareness of greater mobility needs
across all communities? Participate in Week Without Driving [link 17]
by pledging not to drive your vehicle during the week of
Monday,
September 30 - Sunday, October 6.

You can participate in the Week
Without Driving as an individual, elected official, or co-sponsoring
organization. Sign up and share what better mobility options mean for
you at Week Without Driving PGH [link 18].

*STEM Workshop for Girls!*

Google.org is sponsoring a
two-day introductory STEM workshop for girls grades 6-8 on Saturday,
October 19 and Sunday, October 20, 2024. The event is at Google
Pittsburgh in Bakery Square, at 6425 Penn Avenue. This is a free event
and is limited to 100 participants.

The Girls in STEM Robotics
Workshop will enable attendees to explore solutions to challenges
through FIRST LEGO design and coding. Students will
use the
scientific method to test, observe, and revise designs and code. Girls
will be paired with a peer to design and build FIRST LEGO robots that
they code with color, ultrasonic, and touch sensors. The girls will
also have the opportunity to meet and hear about the STEM journeys of
Google employees. The weekend ends with a robot challenge
competition.

This workshop is for beginners or girls who have
limited experience with robotics. For more information and to register
online, click here [link 20].
