Dear John,

On Wednesday night, Speaker Johnson and House Republicans finally brought forward bipartisan legislation to keep our government funded in the short term, and I joined a bipartisan majority supporting its passage through the House.

I wish we could have dropped the partisan politics and worked on a bipartisan agreement from the get-go, but I was glad to see this come through to keep the government open for Minnesota families.

But let’s be clear – this is a band-aid fix.

We still have a lot more work ahead of us. We need to pass a budget that delivers results for our communities, and we need to come together on a bipartisan basis to do so – that's what our constituents deserve.

Bipartisanship is always the best way forward - that's why nearly 80% of the bills I’ve supported this Congress have been bipartisan.

I will continue to work with both Republicans and Democrats to do just that.

Here’s what I was up to this week:

My September Town Hall

On Monday I hosted another town hall – my 69th since I got to Congress. Thank you to those who joined, and especially to Shakopee Chamber President Tim Zunker for moderating and leading us in conversation about how to best support our local small businesses.

Supporting Minnesota’s first responders

I was honored to meet with Minnesota lawmakers on Tuesday to discuss how I can continue to support Minnesota’s first responders as they work to strengthen our communities’ health and safety. Part of the delegation was State Representative John Huot and State Senator Judy Seeberger both from within the Second District.

Working on common sense overdose prevention legislation

I visited with Sandy Hook Promise in my office this week to check in about our work to pass commonsense legislation to protect children from overdose or self-harm, like my Kid PROOF Act, which would increase access to lockboxes and safes to allow for safe storage of lethal means, like opioids.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

Sometimes, Congress is ruff. Fur-tunately for me, I had my family in DC this week to keep me paws-itive. Cheryl, Dakota and Sophie were with me to help me finish up the week.

I’m looking forward to a few weeks at home in Minnesota during our October District Work Period.

Until next time,
