Did you know that Latina domestic workers — especially those who are undocumented or primarily Spanish-speaking — are some of the most vulnerable workers in our country? For many, the constant threat of deportation forces them into silence, afraid to speak up against unfair treatment.
According to our most recent NDWA Domestic Workers Economic Situation Report, which surveyed thousands of Spanish-speaking domestic workers across the country:
- 18% of workers were without work in August.
- 52% of those working earned less than $15 an hour.
- 68% couldn’t find enough work to meet their basic needs.
- 83% were food insecure, while 55% struggled with housing insecurity.
Despite their vital role, too many Latina domestic workers continue to face some of the toughest working conditions with little to no protections.
But, there is hope, and we are building it together.

Take Action: At NDWA, we are fighting for a National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights that would include domestic workers in common workplace protections like paid overtime for live-in workers, paid sick days, and freedom from sexual harassment.
