This morning, my heart is heavy as I write to you, not from the courtroom where I desperately want to be, but from my home. I’m unwell, sick with fever, but my thoughts are consumed by the sentencing of a brave woman I had the privilege to sit with just a few months ago—Eva Edl. She is facing charges for violating the F.A.C.E. Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances). But in truth, what she’s really being punished for is standing in front of the modern-day Death Camp train—the abortion industry.

I sat across from Eva in Detroit over lunch, and even in her small frame, with her dark hair and piercing brown eyes, I could see the fire of righteous indignation burning inside her. That fire was ignited in her youth, when as a young girl in Yugoslavia, she was loaded into a cattle car with her family, destined for death. She recalls the Yugoslavian people lining the tracks, weeping as the train passed, knowing full well the fate that awaited those inside.

But she also remembers this: no one stopped the train.

No one broke down the doors of the slow moving train to save maybe one or two who might escape. No one dared to stand in the way of the evil sweeping across their nation. That’s why Eva, now an elderly widow, chooses to stand in front of the abortion industry’s train. She steps in front, knowing she may only slow it for a moment—just long enough to save one innocent life.

I have heard fellow pro-lifers criticize Eva for breaking federal law, and even proclaim boldly that she deserves prison time for what she has done. Breaking unjust, man-made laws—especially those that sanction persecution and death—does not make one wicked; rather, it reveals a profound righteousness. 

How many Yugoslavians, though law-abiding, stood by in silent compliance as Eva Edl and her family were led to slaughter, simply because it was "illegal" to resist? Today, Eva faces the same criticism from those within the pro-life movement who lack the courage to stand on the proverbial tracks and stop the train of injustice. They criticize her for her boldness, casting stones as they say she "deserves" the consequences of disrupting the abortion industry’s march of death. 

Eva has spent her life doing what others dare not. But today, she is facing a ruthless court system determined to silence her. Why? Because she had the audacity to expose the blood-stained hands behind the gilded, sterile doors of abortion clinics. How dare she disrupt their profit-driven machine. How dare she defend the lives they deem “unhuman.” Eva’s resolve is ironclad. She has saved lives—one baby at a time. But now, all her resources are gone. She has poured everything into her legal battles, moving from court to court, barely able to cover her basic living expenses, let alone the costs of fighting for the unborn.

The abortion industry with the help of federal law, wants to break her. They want her silent. They want her imprisoned.

But we cannot let them win.

Eva doesn’t need just our moral support or a pat on the back. She needs financial support. The state-funded attorneys she’s been forced to rely on have limited capacity to fight back effectively. With your help, she can hire legal defense that isn’t paid for by the very system trying to lock her away. She needs help with travel costs, meals, and the overwhelming burden that comes with standing in the gap for the unborn.

What can you do? Will you help her fight this battle? Will you do more than offer a nod of sympathy? 

It’s time we give Eva what she needs—real, tangible support. Depending on how much we raise, she could pay for her next plane ticket, afford her meals, or even secure a competent attorney who can fight without compromise.
