Read our School Board 101 resource here!
Dear John,
Is that the first crisp leaf of the season that I just saw? As summer transitions into fall here in Virginia and school is well underway, we want to share a little about school boards - how they work, what they make decisions on, and how you can get involved.
Over the last few years, school boards have been the sites of important local policy decisions that directly impact K-12 students’ lives, including what topics they’re permitted to discuss at school, which books they have access to, and what facilities they’re allowed to use. Read on for a crash course (or a refresher) on all things School Board 101 , and make sure to take what you learn and put it into action!

School boards are starting to meet more regularly as the semester continues, and they will likely discuss policy that has a direct effect on you and your community. Stay connected with what’s happening in your district with Equality Virginia’s School Board Policy & Meeting Tracker [[link removed]] - which we just completed a first phase of updates to and are excited to relaunch! Keep an eye out for more information soon.
