Ten years ago today, on Sept. 27, 2014, Bold Nebraska and Indigenious Enviornmental Network hosted the "Harvest the Hope" concert where Willie Nelson and Neil Young headlined a benefit, directly on the land in the path of the now-defunct Keystone XL pipeline.
The concert, the planting of Ponca Sacred Corn, spirit camps, crop art and so many other actions worked to stop the KXL pipeline.
Over 9,000 folks attended the day-long concert on the Tanderup family farm near Neligh, Nebraska, which was not only in the path of KXL but also along the historic Ponca Trail of Tears.
Over 9,000 folks attended the day-long concert on the Tanderup family farm near Neligh, Nebraska, which was directly in the proposed path of the now-defunct Keystone XL pipeline, and situated along the historic Ponca Trail of Tears.
Jamming on stage with along Neil and Willie there was indigenous rapper Frank Waln, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, and a score of local Nebraska artists.
It was a truly awe-inspiring, amazing day for everyone who joined! In case you missed it, you can watch this live performance by Neil Young from the "Harvest the Hope" concert of "Who's Gonna Stand Up (and Save the Earth)?":
Before the concert began, Neil and Willie were gifted buffalo robes created by local Omaha artist Steve Tamayo, and honored by Casey Camp of the Ponca Nation and leaders from the Rosebud, Oglala, Ponca and Omaha Nations for their dedication to family farmers, ranchers and native families.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the Tanderup farm ten years ago, and to all who continue to stand with us today!
