NPR: 14 presidential electors linked to efforts to reverse the results of the 2020 election are currently back on their states’ slates of representatives to the Electoral College for the 2024 election.Four years ago, people now known as “fake electors” in mainly swing states signed certificates that became part of a scheme to overturn the election results.

This raises the question—will the same fake electors try to overturn election results in 2024?

Following the 2020 election, 84 fake electors across seven states illegally signed false electoral certificates, and some states brought criminal charges against these electors.

This summer, CREW released our fake electors tracker [[link removed]] , tracking the status of criminal accountability for each state’s fake electors.

As of last month, fake electors from Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada have been charged with crimes, and the remaining fake electors in New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin do not currently face charges.

The returning 14 fake electors identified by NPR are from Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and Pennsylvania.

The dozens of indictments across Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada reflect the gravity of the fake electors’ actions and the importance of accountability for those who participated – but with 14 fake electors ready to serve again in 2024, it shows that our work for accountability is far from over.
