Nottingham Award winners
A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan
Last night I was honoured to host the historic 728th official Goose Fair Dinner which featured the annual Nottingham Awards.
The Awards are a wonderful way to recognise those who make a significant contribution to our city. All of our winners have done great things for our city and the people who live here so it is important that we take the opportunity to thank them on behalf of the many people who have benefited from their efforts. This year the awards went to Robert Ghahremani, head coach of the Nottingham Lions Wheelchair Basketball club; Tranai Todd, who set up Support Through Sport which delivers sports-based interventions to children and young people, Barbara Bates, the driving force behind Bulwell Forest Gardens and the Friends of Wollaton Park volunteer group.
The Goose Fair Dinner is an historic tradition, and I am pleased that we can continue to hold it through sponsorship at no cost to the council. I would like to thank the sponsor Michael Khouri-Bent through LETS Move Nottingham. Without sponsorship and donations, we wouldn’t be able to hold events like this to recognise and honour those who make this city a great place.

In total, 89 flashing amber lights and 183 school signs have been installed, creating a safer space outside the school gates to encourage more people to walk, cycle or scoot to school. The flashing amber lights are all solar powered which will help support the goal to make Nottingham carbon-neutral by 2028.

Traffic lights
Traffic lights upgraded to LEDs to boost reliability and reduce faults
Thanks to £631,000 from the Government’s Department for Transport, work will start soon to upgrade Nottingham’s traffic signals to energy-efficient LED lights instead of halogen lamps. The council will use the funding to boost reliability and reduce faults to provide a safer experience for motorists as well as longer-term maintenance savings. Over the next 18 months, approximately 60 junctions and 70 crossings will be kitted out with new equipment across all areas of the city. Over 50% of traffic lights are already upgraded to the new LED style.
