It has been a busy summer in Northwest Washington, and our work has caught the attention of some local news outlets!

This summer, I reintroduced legislation to reauthorize the Northwest Straits Commission. In July, I visited an array of recent environment projects led by the Northwest Straits Initiative and other local groups. A healthy environment is vital to Washingtonians' way of life and the regional economy — and that is why mitigating climate change through projects like the Northwest Straits Initiative must be a top priority. Locally driven work like this is key, and I will continue to bring federal money to Northwest Washington for initiatives like this one.

A new light rail station has arrived in Snohomish County! We cannot have a big-league economy with little-league infrastructure. Thanks to the taxpayers who voted to back this project and historic federal investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), the light rail in Lynnwood is a home run. This November, we need to elect Democrats who will vote to reauthorize the BIL to continue investing in jobs and opportunities in Northwest Washington. I will fight to reauthorize the BIL and advance bold, long-term investments in public transit that are building a cleaner, greener, safer, and more accessible transportation system in the Pacific Northwest.

Kids should be focused on learning and getting good grades - not worrying about where their next meal will come from. That is why I introduced the Summer Meals Act of 2024. This bipartisan bill aims to fight childhood hunger by expanding students' access to healthy, nutritious meals and snacks during the summer months. When we put our values first, we can continue to introduce bipartisan bills like this one.

I am grateful that I was able to spend time with these folks and others across Northwest Washington this summer. The hardworking people in our communities are what make the 2nd District great.
