Hi there, it’s Peggy Flanagan, Lt. Governor of Minnesota (also known as Gov. Tim Walz’s second in command!) and chair of the DLGA. I want to tell you about the day I met Tim Walz.
In 2005, when I was 25 years old, I helped lead a three-day training session called Camp Wellstone designed to train folks looking to run for office — most of them political newcomers. Among those newcomers was Tim Walz.
Tim walked into the hall of the Carpenters Local Union 322 in St. Paul wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. As a middle-aged guy from Mankato who helped coach the football team at the high school he taught at, a few of the other folks at Camp Wellstone thought he wasn’t ready to run for congress — but the more we got to know him, the more we found the opposite to be true.
When I first saw Tim Walz, I had no idea that we’d hit it off to the point of serving together as governor and lt. governor of the North Star State. But knowing him now, I couldn’t imagine things turning out any differently.
To America, he’s Tim Walz, vice presidential candidate — the former teacher who made school lunches free for all Minnesota children. The veteran who helped students start a Gay-Straight Alliance in 1999 because he knew having the football coach and soldier as faculty advisor would help stop bullying. The governor who protected reproductive rights and took on the NRA.
To me, he’s Tim Walz, a true friend — the man who will get on one knee to tie my child’s shoe when she asks for help, put syrup on her pancakes and cut them into bite-sized pieces, and always greet her with an enthusiastic “How ya doing, sister?!”
And now, to all of us, he’s the best person to help Kamala Harris win victory in November. I’m immensely proud to be Tim Walz’s lieutenant governor, and I’m fighting like hell to ensure a Harris-Walz victory this November. If you’re with me on the Walz Wagon, will you chip in $7 to the DLGA ahead of our LAST FEC end-of-quarter deadline before Election Day?

I’m grateful to call Tim Walz my favorite coworker and my friend, and I appreciate you taking the time to read this message. Let’s win this!
