ICYMI: On Wednesday, Mayor Adams was indicted on five criminal charges — including bribery, wire fraud, and accepting illegal foreign campaign contributions — that call into question the fundamental integrity of his leadership and his ability to serve. The Mayor deserves due process, of course. He said that he intends to defend himself “with every ounce of [his] strength and spirit.” But if he’s using all of it on his own defense, that won’t leave anything for running New York City. New Yorkers deserve a mayor with integrity, and one who will devote all their strength and spirit to the big challenges we face. John, As I’m sure you’ve probably heard, Mayor Adams was indicted on federal charges. It’s a sad day for NYC. Trust in our public institutions — especially City Hall — is essential for our local democracy to function and for our city to flourish. The hardworking people of New York City deserve a city government and leadership they can trust. Right now, they don’t have it. I’m running for Mayor to change that. Like all New Yorkers, Mayor Adams deserves due process, the presumption of innocence, and his day in court. But our city deserves leadership that is fully focused on the job at hand. That’s why I’m calling on Mayor Adams to step down, for the good of the City. This urgent moment requires steady governance to ensure New York City can move forward and thrive.
