As Minnesota’s chief legal officer, it’s my job to protect your voting rights in court. That’s why, when a nonprofit that regularly attacks Minnesota’s elections in court sued to overturn a new Minnesota law that prohibits spreading false information or deceiving voters about their right to vote within 60 days of an election, I fought back.

I told the court that no individual or organization has a constitutional right to lie to voters, and last week, a federal judge ruled in our favor and dismissed their lawsuit. This means our new law protecting us from election deception stands.

In the most consequential election of our lives, this victory will help ensure Minnesotans can exercise their fundamental rights in November without facing deception or disinformation. And if and when anyone breaks the law and tries to deceive you about your right to vote, I will hold them accountable.

As right-wing attempts to spread disinformation continue to rise, it’s more important than ever that we continue to stay vigilant in safeguarding our fundamental democratic institutions.
