VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republican mayor under criminal investigation over bonkers election interference stunt
Doug Diny, the Republican mayor of Wausau, Wisconsin, took the right-wing fever machine's unfounded and baseless cries of election fraud to a whole new level, stealing a public ballot dropbox with a dolly and wheeling it behind closed doors in his office after thousands of ballots had already been mailed out to city residents. The Wisconsin state Supreme Court ruled earlier this summer that secure public drop boxes are indeed legally acceptable, despite hysterical cries of fraud on the right. Fast forward to this week, when Diny, partisan hack that he is, simply ignored the ruling and documented his stupid, definitely illegal stunt himself — either because he's too stupid to understand the law or too obtuse to care.

Trump sells $100,000 gold watches on the same day Melania insists people can't afford basic necessities
39 days before the election, the MAGA cult leader rolled out his latest grift, the "Official Trump Watch Collection," which consists of 147 gold watches that each have the con man's name on them. The limited collection runs for a very reasonable $100,000 a pop and in no way undercuts the fraudster's incessant and baseless cries that the national economy is a "disaster" under President Biden's watch. But wait, there's more! Melania Trump emerged from hiding for a rare public appearance on Fox News the very same day to hawk her new memoir and made sure to touch on a few tired MAGA talking points, specifically lamenting that people are not able to afford the "usual necessities" today due to higher prices on goods and that her husband is "great" for America, despite his occasional "strong tweets." That's one way to describe them...

Michael J. Fox leads the charge against Parkinson's disease
Michael J. Fox Foundation: With nearly 90,000 new diagnoses in the United States each year, Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing and second-most-common neurodegenerative disease in America. Fox is mobilizing a national movement to help policymakers understand what matters to people with Parkinson’s and share our stories to expand our understanding of this vicious disease. Will you add your name to stand with Michael J. Fox and the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s disease and be ready when it’s time to reach out to your elected officials?
JD Vance criticized "emperor" Trump in 2020 private messages, said he "thoroughly failed to deliver" on campaign promises
Funny thing about digital messaging. It doesn't really ever go away. Just ask Mark Robinson. Unfortunately for JD Vance, that means even more disparaging thoughts and feelings he shared in the past on Donald Trump are coming to light. In just the latest dump, Vance — who once called the MAGA cult leader "America's Hitler" — complained that Trump acted like an "emperor" during his time in office and "thoroughly failed to deliver" on his economic promises before correctly predicting that Joe Biden would go on to win the 2020 election. Oopsie daisy. Can't wait to see how MAGA land tries to spin this one.

Journalist Ken Klippenstein suspended by X after publishing hacked JD Vance dossier
Independent journalist Ken Klippenstein was suspended from nüTwitter after he published the hacked dossier compiled by the Trump campaign this past February during its vetting of JD Vance. The 271-page document included a section about "potential vulnerabilities," which included Vance's past criticisms of the disgraced ex-president — of which there is plenty. When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he famously promised to reinvent the platform as a free-speech bastion where all voices would be heard. Turns out that's not quite the case. Within hours of Klippenstein's post, his X account was suspended. For those keeping score: dossiers filled with verifiable information compiled by campaigns to vet potential running mates — definitely NOT okay. Baseless, far-right conspiracy theories amplified by foreign bots, racist garbage peddled by avowed neo-Nazis, and xenophobic attacks disparaging entire immigrant communities in America — totally AOK.

Kamala Harris lambasts Trump’s "proposals of surrender" as Zelenskyy visits White House
Vice President Harris denounced the MAGA cult leader's unconscionable policy on ending Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine as "proposals of surrender" as the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington to present his own "victory plan." Addressing Zelenskyy at the White House, Harris said that "some in my country" would pressure Ukraine to accept a peace deal in which it surrendered its sovereign territory and neutrality in order to make peace with Vladimir Putin, whatever that means. "These proposals are the same as those of Putin, and let us be clear, they are not proposals for peace," she said. "Instead, they are proposals for surrender, which is dangerous and unacceptable," Harris said.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams bribery indictment reveals years of flights and favors
US federal prosecutors have accused members of the Turkish government of pulling off a years-long influence campaign to cultivate and secure favors from Eric Adams, the embattled — and now criminally indicted — mayor of New York City. Dubbed "a true friend of Turkey" by one Turkish official, the 64-year-old Adams, a former police officer and state lawmaker, now faces charges of wire fraud, bribery, and soliciting campaign donations from foreign nationals. "The conduct alleged in the indictment, the foreign money, the corporate money, the bribery, the years of concealment, is a grave breach of the public’s trust," US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a press conference on Thursday. Despite calls from a growing chorus of elected officials, Adams has vowed not to resign. The Democrat, who ran on a law-and-order message, is the first sitting mayor of New York to be indicted on federal corruption charges.

SisterSong fights for justice for the women who died from GOP abortion bans
SisterSong: Amber Thurman and Candi Miller should still be alive, celebrating life with their families. The event will feature powerful speeches from activists, community leaders, and those who knew Amber and Candi. Will you reserve your spot at the rally, stand in solidarity with Amber and Candi, and join the movement for Black women’s health and rights?
New York Catholic diocese reaches $323 million sex abuse settlement
A Roman Catholic diocese in Long Island, New York, announced a new bankruptcy settlement on Thursday that would pay more than $323 million to about 530 sex abuse survivors who alleged they were abused by priests when they were children. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, which serves about 1.2 million Catholics in Nassau and Suffolk counties, said earlier this year that it did not think a bankruptcy settlement would be possible, after abuse survivors rejected the diocese’s previous $200 million settlement offer. More than two dozen Catholic diocese have filed for bankruptcy in recent years, after New York and other states enacted laws that temporarily enabled victims of child sexual abuse to file lawsuits over decades-old crimes.
Lebanon fears Gaza-like carnage as Israel ramps up airstrikes across the country
Almost a year after the start of its brutal war in Gaza, Israel has turned its focus on Lebanon, significantly ratcheting up its campaign against its archenemy there, the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Among many in Lebanon, there is widespread fear that Israel’s military operations there would follow the same Gaza playbook: evacuation orders, mass displacement, and overwhelming airstrikes. Israel says its strikes target Hezbollah weapons sites and militants, but with the death toll already nearing 700 — and in the wake of last week's brazen pager attacks that killed several civilians and injured thousands — concerns that Israel's use of disproportionate force will be repeated in Lebanon are well-founded. Top Israeli officials, in fact, have threatened to repeat the wholesale destruction of Gaza in Lebanon if the Hezbollah rocket fire into Israel continues.
Fox News poll shows Trump-loving election denier Kari Lake getting destroyed in Arizona Senate race
Two new polls — including one from Fox News — show Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego absolutely walloping Trump's hand-picked candidate and fellow election denier, Kari Lake, by double digits in the race to be Arizona’s next senator. You love to love to see it.
