Dear John,

Abortion access is in a state of emergency.

It has been two years since the Supreme Court unjustly took away our federal constitutional right to abortion, and the impact is clear: women dying due to abortion bans in Georgia and Texas, the suffering of pregnant patients crossing state lines desperate for care, and ongoing chaos negatively impacting our providers and closing much-needed clinics and maternity wards.

Every week we learn of more harm, more trauma, and more tragedy due to draconian abortion bans, especially for Black women already facing a maternal mortality crisis. Women and their families are baring their souls, begging for our country to recognize their humanity and to restore their human rights.

We must demand more. We must fight for more. Together, we will build a better world where abortion is available and accessible without stigma or shame. Can you help? [[link removed]]

This crisis did not begin on June 24, 2022, when the Supreme Court issued its destructive and legally unjustifiable decision. It started the decades before that when anti-abortion extremists used every avenue to attack abortion care and those who seek it or provide it.

Now, state abortion bans have thrown kerosene on our abortion access crisis. As a result of abortion bans, restrictions, and other barriers, pregnant people, particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, or Latina, face serious—often insurmountable—hurdles to accessing vital care and suffer devastating consequences.

The National Women’s Law Center is working to restore reproductive rights and ensure any pregnant person, regardless of who they are or where they live, can access the health care they need and deserve without barriers or stigma. Your membership gift of $15 for Safe Abortion Day will be DOUBLED to support our efforts as we: [[link removed]]
* Fight back in the courts, including protecting emergency abortion care for pregnant people.
* Tell the truth about abortion, through articles, news appearances, congressional briefings, and more, to make sure the public understands what is really at stake when we talk about abortion bans.
* Expand abortion access everywhere we can, like the new rules that got rid of harmful restrictions, finally allowing abortion care and counseling for our nation’s veterans.
* Help lead the fight, providing legal guidance and resources to partners doing critical work to expand and protect abortion access across the country.
* Support abortion patients, providers, and those who helped someone obtain an abortion when they face legal expenses, through the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund.

There is so much work to do, John. But every time I hear about another patient turned away from the emergency room during a miscarriage, or a woman traveling for hours to access care she’s denied in her home state, or those who have died or almost died because of an extreme abortion ban, I’m reminded again why we won’t back down in this fight.
