This horrific week shows us: It is time to abolish the death penalty

In the span of just a week, five people have been executed by the state.

This includes people who maintained their innocence, have mental health disabilities, or were sentenced by unrepresentative juries.

There is little to say about this horrific week – other than this: Capital punishment is a moral stain on our nation that flies in the face of the freedoms our Constitution promises.
