Book bans aren't about protecting kids — they're about control. They're part of a broader cultural and political effort from far-right extremists to limit what students can learn and shrink their opportunity to think critically about the world around them. When right-wingers try to ban books that explore important topics like systemic racism, sexual orientation and gender identity, and historical injustices under the guise of "protecting children," we know the truth: they are the only uncomfortable ones.
The 2025 Legislative Session will be here before we know it, and we anticipate even more attacks on the freedom to read. During Banned Books Week and year-round, we hope you'll join us as we call for our state's leadership to let our children read, explore and express diverse ideas, and access a truthful education. |
