When Ecuador declared a health emergency in March, open markets were closed and thousands of people were suddenly quarantined. But the farmers in Heifer Ecuador's Future of Food Project organized and connected with consumers in urban areas to deliver baskets of grains and vegetables to those quarantined at home.
It was your support that got them this far. But the longer this goes on, the less certain things become.

Families in Ecuador may have found creative ways to support themselves during these difficult times. But with strict guidelines in place — lockdowns, travel restrictions — our farmers and others around the world are facing a second crisis: food shortages and widespread hunger.
We need to ensure that the hardworking families in all of the 21 countries we work in have the same opportunities as farmers in Ecuador. With your help, we can protect local economies and keep more people fed.
