** SUSAN ULIN IN MEMORIAM
------------------------------------------------------------

** 1937 - 2024
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends:

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you. Susan Ulin, a valued member of the Women’s Enterprise Action Loan Fund Board of Advisors passed away in California on September 15, 2024. A graduate of Connecticut College and New York resident for most of her adult life, Susan had over forty years of fundraising experience. Susan’s demonstrated her commitment to helping women entrepreneurs succeed in her long-term mentoring relationship with WEALF participants Monday’s co-founders Jennifer Fiore and Nina Lalli. Susan began working with the two potters when they joined the program in 2014. Jennifer and Nina credit Susan with helping them grow their business further and faster than they could have on their own. With Susan’s guidance Jennifer and Nina were able to grow their business from part-time to working in a successful full-time business.

Susan began her career in fundraising as the Director of Development at the Trinity School and became their first female trustee. She went on to become the Centennial Campaign Director at the New York Botanical Garden. In 1990 she founded Susan Ulin Associates, which raised millions to support the City's best-known charities. She served as the president of the Greater New York chapter of the International Association of Fundraising Professionals and chairman of their Fund-Raising Day in New York. An active member of the Executive Committee of Women in Development she served as president from 2015-2016. In November of 2012 she received The Ralph Chamberlain Award of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Susan’s warmth, professionalism and sense of humor will be missed by all.

Susan is survived by her husband of over sixty years, Dr. Richard Ulin, two sons and five grandchildren.

Sincerely,
Vicki Weiner
WEALF Founder
“Susan was brilliant and tough and funny and so loving. She asked challenging questions that helped us see how to grow our business and called us out whenever we got in our own way. Her insights helped us grow further and faster than we would have on our own. Even after our official mentorship period ended, she continued to check in regularly--we always felt like she was as invested in our success as we were. We loved her and are so grateful for the time we had together.” – Jennifer Fiore & Nina Lalli, Co-Founders Mondays

“Susan was a friend and a mentor. A part of my family’s circle of friends, from childhood. For the past four years, I had the opportunity to work privately with her; assisting her with the basics of computers and smartphones, while she advised me as I worked to grow my business. Like all good mentors, Susan’s advice and strategies helped me think problems through in a new way and got me through some tough spots. I love and miss her.” - Karen Jeanne Radley, WEALF Technical Advisor & Owner KJR Webmasters
