Dear John,

Sometimes it's hard to imagine that things will get better. But I know they can. I've lived through it.

Colorado once had some of the country's most oppressive anti-immigrant laws. High-profile politicians made accusation after accusation about immigrants, spreading fear and lies. But years of organizing by immigrants and allies changed that.

With steady persistence, advocates changed media coverage of immigrants, convinced legislators to pass pro-immigrant laws, and made Colorado a more welcoming place.

Some of our successes include:

===================================

- Helping agricultural workers win a minimum wage, overtime pay, and the right to unionize.

- Welcoming new arrivals bused from the U.S.-Mexico border and helping them connect with family and community support.

- Organizing to pass strong immigrant protection laws in Colorado, such as preventing local authorities from arresting or detaining folks based on their immigration status.

===================================

I also know it is not easy to turn policymakers' attention away from well-funded anti-immigrant rhetoric and toward real solutions that are a win-win for immigrants and communities. But I do know it is possible --our success in Colorado is proof. And it was possible thanks to steady support from AFSC donors.

Will you help provide the steady support needed to meet the challenges of the year to come? We are looking for at least 107 people to start a new monthly gift by Sept. 30 as Partners for Peace.

A welcoming and fair immigration system is good for our communities and our country. Cities with high levels of immigration tend to see drops in violent crime. Economies are lifted and neighborhoods revitalized. Communities are stronger when families can legally stay together.

AFSC has the vision, the partnerships, the integrity, and the experience to mobilize for change when the stakes are high. Right now, we are looking for people who are willing and able to help sustain our work with a monthly donation. Please join us as a Partner for Peace monthly donor if it is within your means. Your steadfast support breathes life into movements for change.
