WG Economy: What Impact Did The Fed's Decision Have?
WG Economy | David Winston
September 25, 2024
The long-awaited Fed decision to cut interest rates was announced last wee.
While inflation has moderated from its peak in 2022, consumers are left
with a 20% cumulative price increase since the beginning of the Biden
administration. Did the Fed's decision to declare victory have any impact
on how voters see the economy?
Data from the latest survey for Winning the Issues (September 18-19; 1,000
registered voters) sheds some light on this question. Since the
announcement we have seen more improvement in the percentage saying
inflation is getting better (21%) up to 28%. This movement has come mostly
from Democrats (going from 35% better to 49%) and some from independents
(16% to 25%). However half the electorate still believes inflation is worse
(49%), so there has been some moderating of views about inflation but not
much.

WG Discussion Points: Our 2024 Party ID Guide
for National Surveys
WG Discussion Points | David Winston
September 20, 2024
We are approaching the closing weeks of the election, and should anticipate
national polls to come out showing varied results. As we've done in past
campaign seasons, we are releasing our updated party identification chart
showing trending of party ID at the Congressional level which also allows a
comparison between off-year and on-year differences. Typically for the
on-year election, the Presidential party ID and Congressional party ID are
almost virtually the same. These percentages in the chart are based on
Edison exit polls going back to 1984 with the percentage of Republicans in
red, Democrats in blue, and independents in green. These percentages are
self-identified party identification, not party registration.
