In 2024 generative AI, more cross-publisher collaboration, improved detection tools, and renewed attention to plagiarism are redefining the problem of plagiarism and how to respond to it.

Template letters are available to COPE Members who are communicating with authors, reviewers or universities about a suspected breach of research or publication integrity.

The templates were recently updated, with new letters added including for cases where journal editors need to contact universities.

COPE Members: if you have a publication ethics issue you are currently dealing with and need advice from other COPE members, submit your case for discussion and advice at the Forum or from COPE Council Members. 
MATERIAL PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AS A PREPRINT 

COPE positions are short summaries of COPE advice on a range of issues. This month we highlight a COPE position describing how journals should handle material previously published on a preprint server.

This week-long series of events will feature insights from across the publication integrity spectrum from sessions on good publication ethics practice to discussions on issues challenging research publishing. 
Publication Integrity Week is free for COPE Members.

国际出版伦理委员会(COPE)理事徐佳忆和胡昌杰将共同主持,并为大家带来一场中文版本的出版伦理概述研讨会。
此次研讨会的内容主要涵盖出版伦理基本原则概述,以及COPE发布的相关指南和工具在日常期刊编辑工作实践中的应用。无论是对申请 COPE 会员,还是负责处理出版伦理问题的编辑人员,都将从中受益匪浅。
徐佳忆和胡昌杰将介绍 COPE发布 的中文资源,重点介绍良好出版伦理的核心原则,以及期刊编辑常遇到的问题。他们将使用 COPE 会员提交的真实案例,邀请与会者分享他们的应对方式,并讨论解决问题的不同路径。
本次研讨会的注册将于近期开放。


COPE Council Members Jiayi Xi and Jason Hu will be leading a Chinese-language version of our Introduction to Publication Ethics workshop. The workshop takes place on Tuesday 8 October, 16:00-17:30 CST / UTC+8.
This workshop is an introduction to the principles of publication ethics and how to use guidance and tools to embed publication ethics in a journal's daily practice.

STOP BAD SCIENCE PROPAGATING THROUGH THE LITERATURE

Citing retracted research, dubious papers and citations, and paper mills. Tools and a change in practice can prevent further distortion when awareness of when a paper can’t be trusted is too low. This article suggests adopting some easy-to-use technological solutions to help researchers, publishers and referees to clean things up.
