Dear John,

It’s abhorrent that hundreds of families are living through this COVID-19
nightmare in crowded family detention centers — with inadequate basic hygiene
and limited access to medical care.

Amnesty’s team is dedicated to releasing each and every family. We demand the
U.S. government release families immediately.

You can help. Today is Giving Tuesday Now, a special global day of giving to
address the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

TODAY ONLY: Your donation will immediately be matched so we can double our
impact advocating for the urgent release of families held unjustly in ICE
detention centers.

As part of this special day of giving, we must raise $250,000 to support our
lifesaving work ensuring that human rights
are front and center in the COVID-19 response and recovery. Will you help?

Our team is working day and night to get as many families released as possible.
And it’s working. Here’s one heartwarming story.

Maddie, a 7-year-old girl, and her father, Emerson, were jailed in a family
detention center in Pennsylvania for nine months — after seeking asylum because
they were targeted for their religious principles in Guatemala, where they had
lived.

Amnesty International worked closely with the family's lawyers to develop a case
action to free them. Hours before our action was set to go live, we received the
best news possible: After nine months of detention, Maddie and her dad were freed!

John: Maddie — who spent her seventh birthday
locked up — requested one simple pleasure after her release. While in jail, she
had been dreaming of eating a slice of pizza topped with lots of pineapple — and
she did just that on her very first night of freedom.

While we celebrate their recent release, we must not overlook the fact that
hundreds more families still remain detained and in danger.

We are counting on supporters like you to help us free more families. And today,
as part of Giving Tuesday Now, your donation will be immediately matched —
having twice the impact.

As a global organization, we know this pandemic reveals the interconnectedness
of our world in a very personal way. We also know that during trying times like
these, the best of humanity can rise.

Thank you for being part of our family.
