Dear John,

We’re more than a month into the coronavirus lockdown, and there’s still a lot of confusion around what the law is, when we can lawfully go outside and what the police can do.

Last month  we launched Liberty’s coronavirus advice and information hub to help you navigate this crisis.

At what’s already a worrying time, it’s vital you have clear information on your rights.
Recent stories of police patrolling ‘non-essential’ supermarket aisles, preventing people from driving to somewhere less busy to exercise, and flying drones to monitor our outdoor activities have caused confusion and anxiety.

Some of this has happened because of a lack of clear guidance. And this situation has caused understandable concern for those of us who live in communities or neighbourhoods that are already overpoliced.

It’s vital we all know what our rights are and can defend these rights, for ourselves and for our communities. So Liberty’s advice and information hub provides simple, accurate explainers covering:

It also provides guidance on how to make a complaint and find a lawyer if you need one.

It’s crucial our explainers and advice reach as many people as possible.

Liberty has been challenging injustice, defending freedoms and campaigning to make the UK a fairer place for everyone since 1934. But our work is only possible thanks to our members. You can help our mission and support us during the pandemic and beyond by becoming a Liberty member for as little as £1 per month

Stay safe and stay well.

Best wishes,
