Earlier this month, House Republicans and Donald Trump demanded the passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE). This legislation, which adds significant barriers for Americans to cast their ballots, was their latest ransom as they aimed to hold us hostage and lead our government toward another shutdown.
Project 2025 architects, Donald Trump, and MAGA extremists all claimed that the SAVE Act would address the nonexistent problem of noncitizen voting in our elections. Let me be perfectly clear — it would have disenfranchised American citizens and brought chaos and confusion to our election system — exactly what Trump wants before November.
For years, Trump and his allies have claimed falsely that large numbers of noncitizens are voting in U.S. elections. This is a lie. So why were Trump and his gang of crooks ready to shut down the government to pass the SAVE Act?
Because spreading misinformation is part of their cynical campaign to undermine public faith in our elections. They wanted to suppress the votes of those most likely to oppose a second Trump term. They wanted to set the stage to challenge the 2024 election results if Trump loses.
This internal GOP conflict caused them to pull their budget proposal, and once again, they left funding the government until the last second. Same old story. Their inability to do their jobs outside of the influence of Trump is dangerous and unacceptable. Trump tells them to “shut it down” and they fall in line — even in a critical election year. Their priority is keeping their power and satisfying their wealthy donors, not the American people.
I won’t stand for it anymore, and I know you won’t either.
We have to vote the GOP out and ensure that Democrats win up and down the ballot nationwide. That’s exactly what I’m focused on doing. Donate today to help us reach our goal to raise an additional $9,500 before September ends so that we can hold the GOP accountable, secure our democracy, and make life better, for all of us.
Thanks,
Mary Gay
