Friend -
It’s hard being a mom these days. I drop my kids off at school, kiss them goodbye, and every day I wonder if this is the day something awful might happen. It’s a nightmare that no parent should have to live through, yet here we are—school shootings have become so common that they barely shock us anymore. I’m sure you’ve had the same thoughts too.
As my work partner Dc says, "The only afterbirth abortion happening is the blind eye politicians give to school shootings." And honestly, isn’t that the truth?
We’ve got politicians, who are supposed to serve and protect us, doing everything but passing meaningful gun control laws. Their inaction is costing us the lives of our children, our teachers, and our communities.
Let’s be real—there’s no reason we can’t do better. Other countries have faced this issue head-on and come out safer on the other side. We’re just not doing it, and it’s beyond infuriating.
We know what needs to be done. It’s time to move this discussion from thoughts and prayers to actual legislation that protects our kids. Here’s how you can help make this happen:
1.
Call
your
representatives:
You’d
be
surprised
how
much
impact
a
flood
of
calls
can
have.
Ask
them
where
they
stand
on
gun
control
legislation,
and
let
them
know
you’re
watching
their
votes
closely.
2.
Join
or
support
gun
reform
organizations:
Groups
like
Moms
Demand
Action
or
Everytown
for
Gun
Safety
are
doing
the
hard
work,
but
they
need
our
support.
Get
involved
by
donating,
volunteering,
or
attending
local
meetings.
3.
Vote,
vote,
vote:
This
November,
we
need
to
elect
people
who
actually
care
about
ending
gun
violence.
If
your
elected
officials
aren’t
willing
to
step
up
and
protect
our
children,
we
need
to
find
people
who
will.
We owe it to our kids to do better. We owe it to ourselves to stop living in fear every time we send them to school. Enough is enough. Let’s get this done.
In solidarity and hope for a safer tomorrow,
Edil Mari De Los Reyes
PowerPAC is a social justice organization that strategically directs financial and human resources to local and state organizations working to deliver wins in legislative fights, ballot initiatives, and more. For years the money we've raised has, dollar for dollar, been given back to the communities we work with. We've made sure that your investments were being used to build power for our communities because too often we are underrepresented and ignored.
