Who’s Funding U.S. Anti-Israel Groups?
The eruption of mass protests and activities across the U.S. immediately following Hamas’s terror massacre on October 7 has raised important questions about the funding sources of the anti-Zionist and anti-Israel groups behind the unrest, especially given that some demonstrations have also featured antisemitic messaging and open support for terror organizations.
The ADL Center on Extremism set out to chart some of these groups’ funding sources to better understand their operations. Amid allegations of other funding sources — including the possible involvement of foreign actors like Iran, per a July statement by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines — this report will focus on tracking funding mainly from tax records and grant announcements.

A Unified Message at the U.N.: We are coming to the end of the U.N. General Assembly’s ‘high level week’, when world leaders descend on New York. This year, more than ever, we need world leaders to speak up in the fight against global antisemitism, terrorism and hate. ADL’s leadership and our full International Affairs team have been in high gear, effectively pressing officials from dozens of countries on nearly every continent, including heads of state and foreign ministers, to make substantial progress on six key ADL priorities as well as issues related to each nation’s home Jewish communities and issues of antisemitism:
1. The U.N. and governments worldwide must do more to address rising antisemitism in the post-Oct. 7 world. The Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism, which provide common best practices for governments, have been adopted by over 40 countries. For those who have not — we ask that you endorse these guidelines, which ADL was proud to help inform during their development.
2. The U.N. and international governments must use all levers at their disposal to ensure that Hamas releases all remaining hostages, and that Hamas and its patrons no longer represent a threat to Israel and its people. It has been nearly a year. We must #BringThemAllHomeNow.
3. On Oct. 7, Hamas and other Palestinian terrorists leveraged rape and sexual violence as a weapon of war. We ask that Hamas, like other groups that have weaponized sexual violence, be added to the Annex list in the Secretary General’s next Annual Report on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence pursuant to Resolution 1960.
4. Since Oct. 7, we’ve witnessed an intensified anti-Israel bias at the U.N. and its affiliated institutions, such as UNRWA. The U.N. has failed to address years of systemic problems within UNRWA, including the documented participation of its employees in the Oct. 7 attacks. The U.N. must commit to reforming or dismantling this highly problematic institution.
5. Despite UNIFIL’s presence in South Lebanon, Hezbollah has successfully rearmed with approximately 150,000 missiles, which it is now lobbing at Israel’s civilian population. The U.N. must enforce UNIFIL’s full mandate and pressure all relevant parties to publicly denounce Hezbollah interference.
6. The global threat posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies cannot be minimized or ignored. The Iranian regime and its terror proxies, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, represent a direct threat to the State of Israel, to Jews worldwide and to the West.

We are joining with OneTable and Passages Israel in a new program to build bridges between the Jewish and Christian communities through shared experiences and dialogue. This initiative, “A Light in the City,” aims to foster friendship and understanding by hosting Shabbat dinners in several cities across the country.

Yes, @DanaBashCNN is absolutely right. It’s a sad reality when leaders refuse to call out antisemitism coming from their own side. Condemning hate expressed by your opponents is easy. Calling it out when it comes from your friends is hard. But moral clarity and plain old honesty are what we should expect from our leaders.
